Scarf Lapras makes its debut in Pokémon GO for the 2022 Water Festival event, and there are two ways to obtain this new costumed Pokémon. The event will begin on Thursday, May 12, at 10 am local time, and it will run until Friday, May 20, at 8 pm. For the duration of the event, players will be able to find and catch Scarf Lapras, and there’s also a small chance that a Shiny version of this Pokémon can be encountered.

Scarf Lapras won’t appear in the wild, but there are still two ways that players can try to catch this Pokémon during the event. Scarf Lapras has a chance to appear as a reward for completing Timed or Field Research Tasks, and it can also be encountered as a tier-three raid boss. In both instances, Scarf Lapras can also appear as Shiny. Players can complete tasks and win Scarf Lapras raids in Pokémon GO in order to add the costumed Pokémon to their collection.

Both Timed and Field Research Tasks have a chance to spawn a Scarf Lapras, so players should focus on completing tasks that have a random encounter as the reward. The Timed Research is listed under the Today tab, but players can also complete challenges in the Field section. The tasks vary, and the random encounter comes is chosen randomly from a pool of several Pokémon, so multiple challenges may need to be completed before Scarf Lapras is found. Alternatively, players can challenge Scarf Lapras in a tier-three raid and get the opportunity to catch it after winning the battle.

Scarf Lapras has all the same stats as a regular Lapras, so in Pokémon GO, its raid boss CP is about 15,000, and it can be boosted by a rainy or snow weather boost. Scarf Lapras is a Water- and Ice-type Pokémon, and it’s weak against Fighting-, Rock-, Electric-, and Grass-type moves. With a strong team, players can likely win the raid alone, but Scarf Lapras will be defeated quicker with more trainers. Winning the raid quickly will award more Premier Balls to try to catch Scarf Lapras after the battle.

When Scarf Lapras is defeated, players will be awarded a set number of Premier Balls depending on their contribution to the battle. The number of Premier Balls players will get is determined by how quickly the raid boss is defeated, how much damage was dealt, the friendship level between participating players, and whether or not other trainers are on the same team. After defeating the raid boss in Pokémon GO, players can use items to make catching Scarf Lapras easier.

Regardless of how players find a Scarf Lapras, once an encounter starts, a Razz Berry or Golden Razzy Berry can be used to increase the chance of capturing it. Players can also use Ultra Balls if they encounter Scarf Lapras outside of a raid. Participating in the 2022 Water Festival event as often as possible will result in plenty of opportunities to obtain Scarf Lapras, and possibly the Shiny version, in Pokémon GO.
