World No. 12 Cameron Norrie admits that coming to Wimbledon as the top-ranked British players brings certain level of pressure but adds he is ready for the challenge. Norrie, 26, enjoyed a career-best season last year and now he is aiming to elevate his game to another level and win a Grand Slam and reach the top spot.

Norrie, who broke into the top-10 for the first time in his career in April, has played at Wimbledon four times and his best result at the tournament was the third round result achieved last year. “I think you take the pressure of being British No.

1 – I’d take my progress over the last couple of years,” Norrie said on Eurosport’s Players’ Voice. “Coming back this year being British No. 1 is exactly where I want to be. Obviously, it would’ve been nice to be a little bit higher in the world rankings, but I’ve got a lot to improve on in my game and I’m really enjoying the challenge of everything and of the grass.

I really like the grass now. I feel like I had a decent season on it last year and that gave me a lot of confidence. I haven’t played too much on it in my career so I’m still learning and it’s all pretty new to me, but it’s really exciting.”

Medvedev, who lifted his maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open last year, reached the top spot for the first time in his career in late February. Medvedev lost the top ranking position in March but returned to the top ranking this month.

Norrie feels there are similarities between his and Medvedev’s game as he says he does not see a reason why he could not reach the top position. “It’s impressive for me to see what Daniil Medvedev has done.

I’ve been following him – he’s my favourite player to watch – and just to see how he’s got to world No. 1 with his game style has given me some confidence. I’m not saying it’s easy at all – he’s insanely talented – but there’s no reason why I can’t do the same,” Norrie added.
