Xander Schauffele achieved 6 wins on the PGA Tour. This time he won the Travelers Championship in Connecticut. His opponent were the great Sahith Theegala and J.T. Poston, who failed to beat the great Schauffele. Schauffele was happy after all, and he was aware that it would not be easy, especially against such a strong opponent.
However, Xander showed calmness, readiness, and quality when it was most needed. “I’ve been out here long enough, this is my sixth year on Tour, and you just know that no-one’s going to hand you a win,” Schauffele said, as quoted by skysports.
“I was very aware of that and ready to birdie the last and I thought that was going to be to get in a play-off so I was just lucky it was to make me on top.”
Schauffele on his victory
Schauffele believes that this victory will be very important for him mentally.
Some things didn’t go well for him, but this will be a big wind in his back and he will try to use this momentum in the next challenges that await him. “I really think this was, in a small way, a big win for me mentally just because I sort of had to check myself.
When you’ve been out here and things are going easy you just expect to play well all the time. Sometimes it’s good to take a step back – and I thought I did that this week.” He emphasized once again that it was not easy at all, and the pressure was enormous.
“My mind was telling me to hit a good drive and then use your sand wedge or lob wedge in there and make birdie,” Schauffele said. “To sit there and watch what happened was a bit of a shock, obviously. I really had to try and focus on the task at hand”.
