Williams haven’t exactly been the pick of the bunch this season when it comes to performance, but the team are looking to change things heading into Silverstone.

As confirmed by Williams’ head of vehicle performance Dave Robson, the team will bring an upgraded aero package to this weekend’s British Grand Prix, but only on Alex Albon’s car.

According to Robson, the decision to only run the upgrade on one car is to “check its behaviour and confirm that it is working as intended”. He added: “The bodywork and floor form the basis of the upgrade and are intended to efficiently increase the downforce of the car.”

Albon has collected all three of Williams’ points this season, with the teams best result being a 9th-place finish in Miami.

On the other hand, it has been a frustrating year for Nicholas Latifi, who has only managed to finish inside the top 15 on one occasion this season.

According to F1.com writer Lawrence Barretto, these upgrades could prove to be vital for Williams this season, as they could be worth up to a second of qualifying time, depending on the track.

Whilst this weekend in Silverstone looks more like a testing event for Williams, Robson has confirmed that the team are eying up the Sprint race in Austria for the first real performance boost.

“The new parts… are likely to change the balance and the handling of the car and it may take a little bit of time to harness them so that the drivers can get the most from them,” said Robson. “With next week’s race in Austria being a Sprint event, we will be looking to get as much learning done this weekend as possible.”
