The 2024 Emmy Awards, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, celebrated the best in television with a night full of surprises and historic wins. Hosted by the dynamic father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, the ceremony was a blend of humor, heartfelt speeches, and memorable moments.

The big winner of the night was FX’s “Shōgun,” which dominated the drama categories. The historical drama, set in 17th-century feudal Japan, took home the awards for Best Drama Series, Best Lead Actor (Hiroyuki Sanada), Best Lead Actress (Anna Sawai), and Best Directing for a Drama Series. With a total of 18 Emmys, including wins from the Creative Arts Emmys, “Shōgun” set a new record for the most awards won by a single season.

In the comedy categories, HBO’s “Hacks” emerged victorious, winning Best Comedy Series. Despite stiff competition from “The Bear,” which had the most nominations for a comedy series with 23, “Hacks” managed to secure the top prize. The show’s success was a testament to its sharp writing and stellar performances.

The ceremony was not just about the awards but also about the celebration of television’s ability to bring people together. Eugene Levy’s opening monologue humorously addressed the unconventional categorization of some shows, while Dan Levy’s quips added a lighthearted touch to the evening.

Overall, the 2024 Emmy Awards highlighted the diversity and creativity of the television industry, honoring both new and established talents. The night ended with a sense of anticipation for what the next year in television will bring.
