Contrary to recent speculation, Martin Short and Meryl Streep are not romantically involved, according to Short himself.
The actor addressed the rumors during an appearance on “Club Random with Bill Maher,” streamed on Sunday. Maher playfully referred to Short and Streep as a “power couple,” to which Short clarified, “We’re not a couple; we are just very close friends.”
Streep, who played Loretta Durkin in the Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building” alongside Short, Steve Martin, and Selena Gomez, has been at the center of dating rumors with Short, especially after they appeared amicable at the Golden Globe Awards in January.
Maher jokingly suggested that they should consider dating, emphasizing the influence of a “power couple” in Hollywood. However, Short maintained that their relationship is purely platonic.
Martin Short has been a widower since 2010 when his wife, Nancy Dolman, passed away from ovarian cancer. On the other hand, Streep’s representative confirmed last year that she and her husband of 45 years, Don Gummer, have been separated for some time.
