Second Brexit party to push for EU exit – ‘It’s time to sing praises of no deal’

JUST days after Nigel Farage unveiled his new Brexit Party, vowing to put up candidates in future European elections in the event of any delays to Article 50, a campaign group bankrolled by multimillionaire financier Jeremy Hosking is planning to launch a separate political party of its own in a bid to ensure Britain’s smooth departure from the bloc.

Mr Hosking confirmed his intentions as Brexit Express launched a nationwide billboard advertising campaign urging the public and politicians to back no deal as the only way to get a good deal from the EU. He said: “I am happy to confirm papers were submitted to the Electoral Commission on behalf of ‘Brexit Express BE’ last week (February 4, 2019) and comments from the Electoral Commission are awaited. The strategies of the new party will be greatly influenced by political events of the next few months, as well as by the actions of others.”

Mr Hosking, who founded Brexit Express in 2016, said the party would be committed to backing Britain’s timely departure from the EU, as well as ensuring subsequent trade negotiations honour the proposition voted for in 2016, taking back control of money, borders and laws.

He added: “Brexit Express expects that many new parties will likely be formed in 2019 should it become clear that the main parties are, in fact, Remain-junkies determined to thwart the Brexit which so many of us voted for and, in the case of Labour and the Conservatives, in defiance of their own manifesto promises.”

The six-figure digital billboard advertising campaign kick-off at midnight on Sunday with four creative treatments, which will be up-dated constantly to reflect events.

They can be seen at prominent billboard sites across the country, culminating on March 29, the day the UK is scheduled to leave the EU.

Mr Hosking added: “Without no deal we either cannot leave the EU at all, or can only do so on egregious terms.

“The truth of the latter is demonstrated by the agreement the so-called negotiations produced, which are little short of a prohibitively expensive national humiliation.

“In the opinion of BE, it’s time to sing the praises of no deal, both as an outcome and as a negotiating tactic.

“This campaign will do this, whilst retaining (hopefully) our sense of humour.”

Mr Farage’s Brexit Party was officially recognised by the Electoral Commission on Friday, permitting it to field candidates at elections.

He said: “If the need comes for the Brexit Party to be mobilised, I think it will draw support from across the entire spectrum.

“I genuinely believe people would be very surprised at the support it would attract. There is a live vehicle there from which to fight back.

“There are many millions of people out there at the moment feeling disenfranchised completely, feeling that they are more Leavers or Remainers, but feeling they are more Leavers than they are Labour or Tory supporters and this would give them a focus.”

In words which could be equally applicable to Mr Hosking’s new party, Tory MP and Brexiteer Andrew Bridgen described Mr Farage’s new party as a “Damocles sword” hanging over his own.

He said: “The Brexit Party being formed is a Damocles sword hanging over the future of the Conservative party and the government.

“If we don’t deliver the Brexit we promised the British people, quite rightly we’re going to be punished at the polls.”

Meanwhile Labour renegade Kate Hoey predicted Mr Farage’s party would “would probably sweep the country” if it contested elections in the future.
